Every cryptocurrency enthusiast, be it an occasional or a regular user, has been confronted with the thorny question of choosing his wallet.
In the crypto world, wallets are indeed an essential piece of software: not only does they allow you to store and protect your funds — just as a bank account for your fiat savings or a safe for your gold bullions would do—, they are also the software program you use on a daily basis to interact with crypto assets and blockchains, whether you want to check your balance, send and receive funds, consult your transaction history, or manage your tokens.
In short, cryptocurrency wallets are the gateway to crypto. It’s the software program that enables you to store, use, manage and protect your crypto assets. That’s why choosing the right one is of the utmost importance.
ONE WALLET TO RULE THEM ALL
In 2017, when I discovered cryptocurrency, I was soon faced with a major issue: how to store the multiple coins I owned? At first, I was using the official wallet of each coin, but after a few months, guess what: I was left with a dozen different wallets, each one with their own interface — which, by the way, was often poorly designed and buggy. Moreover, these wallets were not all available on the same platforms, and there was often no mobile version at all. But that’s not even the worst part: initial sync was a nightmare, and I had to wait for synchronization to complete every time I needed to use them. Finally, the wallets’ data would eventually add up to hundreds of gigabytes on my computer hard disk. Managing all these wallets had become a daily nightmare and an incredible ordeal.
So I started looking for the wallet that would allow me to solve this problem. After a lot of research, and some failed attempts, I finally came across Guarda. BTC? Supported. ETH? Supported. LTC? Supported. BTG, DOGE, KMD, ADA, XMR, XTZ…? All supported! I now had just one wallet with a single interface to store and manage all my crypto assets.
Back in 2017, with the boom of ICOs and Ethereum, the question of managing my ERC-20 tokens also arose. Luckily, ERC-20 tokens are supported by Guarda. Later, Binance launched its DEX with its own token specification. Was I going to have to find a new wallet? Guarda has done a great job in adding new chains, coins and tokens on a regular basis and as the market evolves. BEP-2 tokens are supported, and popular coins like Ravencoin (RVN) and Cream (CRM), among my favorites, have recently been added too. Now, you may ask about stablecoins. Well, Guarda supports the No. 1 stablecoin, USDT, whether it is issued on Omni or Ethereum!
In short, with Guarda, I can now manage everything from a single wallet, with a single interface, without losing time by synchronizing every block of every blockchain I interact with, or having to worry about my remaining disk space. A revolution! Anyone that had to deal with dozens of different full node wallets knows what I’m talking about… Guarda truly is the one wallet to rule them all.
Having one wallet instead of a dozen and being able to manage Ethereum, Binance or Omni tokens from a single place is already a great achievement. But it’s even better when it’s available on all the devices and platforms you use. Our lives have become increasingly digital, and we all have multiple devices that we use on a daily basis — be it a computer, a smartphone or a tablet. Sometimes we use the desktop, sometimes the tablet; sometimes we have access to one device, but not to the other. So it’s crucial that your wallet be available on all your devices, anytime, anywhere.
To me, this is one of Guarda’s greatest strengths: whether I’m on my Linux computer, my Android phone or my iOS tablet, Guarda is at hand. Desktop computers (Linux, Windows, MacOS), smartphones, tablets (Android, iOS), and even browsers (Chrome): Guarda is compatible with almost all devices and platforms! Even when I don’t have my personal devices with me, there’s the web-based Guarda wallet, accessible from any connected device in the world. By the way, Guarda is integrated with the Ledger API, so you can connect your Ledger Nano with Web Guarda for enhanced security, along with Guarda signature interface!
You know what’s even cooler? The Chrome extension works as a connecting bridge between Guarda Wallet and decentralized applications (known as “dApps”), allowing you to access dApps on Ethereum as well as other blockchains, directly from the browser!
No doubt here: from all the wallets I tried, Guarda is the one that delivers the most seamless experience in crypto assets and Web 3.0 usage, across all devices and platforms.
SECURE AND NON-CUSTODIAL
There remains perhaps the most important aspect of all: safety. Taking back control of your money in a decentralized system is not only one of the great promises of cryptocurrencies, it’s one of their raison d’être. But here’s the catch: being “your own bank”” means that in the event of a hack or if you lose your keys, your funds are lost forever. The history of crypto is — unfortunately — full of these “lost funds” stories, due to a mere oversight, a theft, a loss or poor security management.
In this respect, Guarda is remarkable. First of all, it is non-custodial, meaning that my personal data and private keys never leave my device. My keys are not sent to the cloud, my data is not shared with Guarda. What is mine stays mine; I’m the only one with access to my stuff. This is very important, because that’s the very spirit of cryptocurrencies: it would makes no sense to try to regain control of your money through a decentralized network, and at the same time let centralized cloud services or private companies control your keys and access your data. As the saying goes, “Not your keys, not your coins”! With Guarda everything is stored locally, nothing leaves your device. That’s one of the reasons why I like Guarda so much.
Speaking of keys, Guarda’s backup functionality is one of the best: I can either export each private key individually, or backup all my wallets at once in one click, and restore them just as easily on another device, whether it is desktop or mobile. I also like how Guarda reminds me to back up my data whenever I create or modify a wallet. Amazing!
Private keys and backups are encrypted using AES, one of the most secure encryption algorithms. So even if someone were to get their hands on your device, your funds are safe. I also really appreciate the support of biometric identification to secure my wallet.
THAT’S NOT ALL, FOLKS!
There are many other things that make Guarda a great wallet.
They have a built-in exchange, that lets you easily swap coins inside your wallet, without having to go through the cumbersome and time-consuming process of opening an account on an external exchange, sending funds, doing the actual trade, then sending the funds back to your wallet — all operations that all come at a cost. You can even purchase crypto with your bank card on www.guarda.co! This kind of service is definitely a plus. Besides, Guarda has the FIU license for virtual against fiat currency exchange and complies with laws and regulations of all jurisdictions in which the company operates, so you can relax, knowing that you are compliant with your local regulations.
Finally, I love Guarda’s UI and UX. It is straightforward, neat and clear, and I get the same experience whether I am on my computer, on my phone, or on the web. Really convenient in everyday life. Yet, it is full of features for advanced users, such as being able to choose my transactions fees. The best of both worlds.
The icing on the cake? The Guarda team — that comprises of experts in IT, security, design and UI/UX —truly loves, and care for, blockchain technologies. They have tight connections with crypto communities (lot of partnerships, regular bounties, giveaways…), they are attentive to their users’ feedback, and they have a very good support. It is no coincidence that Guarda is the official Android wallet of Ethereum Classic, or that the Zcash Foundation has awarded them a scholarship for SPV wallet and library development!
GIVE IT A TRY
So here was my review of Guarda, by far the best wallet to store, exchange and manage multiple cryptocurrencies, if you ask me. It’s secure, convenient, user-friendly, and available across all devices and platform, and it has one of the best team you will ever find in the crypto industry.
So next time you’ll be looking for a crypto wallet, just give Guarda a try!
