Kraken’s New AI-Powered App Wants to Manage Your Trades — Here’s What Stays Yours
Kraken is rolling out an AI-driven app redesign that builds you a portfolio and flags trades. You still tap "confirm" every time.

If you’ve ever opened a crypto app, stared at a wall of charts, and had no idea what to do next, Kraken thinks it has an answer: let an AI figure it out with you. The exchange announced on July 10 that it’s rebuilding its mobile app around artificial intelligence tools that build you a personalized portfolio, watch the markets around the clock, and ping you with trade ideas — though it still needs your thumbs-up before anything actually happens.
How the new app is supposed to work
Here’s the basic flow: you tell the app what you’re trying to achieve, how much risk you’re comfortable with, and what matters most to you financially. The AI then puts together a suggested portfolio you can review before you put a single dollar in. Once you’re invested, it keeps monitoring the market and sends you alerts and trade suggestions based on your specific holdings.
Kraken calls this its “financial intelligence” layer. According to CNBC, the company’s chief data officer, Kamo Asatryan, said the goal is to give everyday retail users the same kind of market insight that Kraken’s most active traders already enjoy. “There’s an opportunity for everyday people to become high-frequency traders and do so using plain English,” Asatryan said.
That last part matters for anyone worried an app might start trading behind their back. Kraken has been clear that the AI can spot opportunities but cannot pull the trigger on its own — every trade it suggests still needs your explicit approval first. In other words, this is a smarter research assistant, not an autopilot for your wallet.
Why this matters if you hold crypto
For newcomers, this kind of feature could genuinely lower the barrier to entry — instead of guessing which coins fit your goals, the app does some of that thinking for you. But it’s worth remembering that AI-generated suggestions are only as good as the data and assumptions behind them, and “personalized” doesn’t mean “risk-free.” Any recommendation is still a starting point for your own judgment, not a guarantee of returns.
Kraken says crypto guidance runs through its Payward Interactive arm, while anything touching securities comes from Kraken Adviser, a unit registered with the SEC as an investment adviser — a distinction that matters if you’re mixing crypto with tokenized stocks on the platform.
You’re not the only exchange going this route
Kraken is late to a trend that’s moving fast across the industry. Gemini was the first major U.S. exchange to roll out agentic AI trading setups back in April. Coinbase followed in June with Coinbase Advisor, an SEC-registered robo-advisory tool, while OKX launched a beta marketplace letting AI agents execute trades and on-chain actions. Binance has also been layering AI features into its ecosystem.
The activity isn’t just theoretical. Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis reported that Coinbase’s Base network passed 100 million agentic payment transactions last month, and the size of these transfers has been climbing — a sign that AI-assisted trading is moving well past the experimental stage.
Fintech app Revolut jumped in around the same time as Kraken, updating its Revolut X exchange so users can plug in AI assistants like Claude and Gemini to research markets and place trades using plain conversational commands — with the same rule that you still have to confirm every transaction yourself.
Kraken’s redesigned app is expected to roll out over the coming weeks. It arrives alongside a string of recent moves from the exchange, including U.S. crypto perpetual futures, Solana trading in its main app, tokenized IPO access, expanded lending, and reported groundwork for a possible future IPO of its own.
