A Meme Coin Made One Trader Rich — And Cost Another $2.7M in Regret

CASHCAT's 3,200% surge shows why meme coins can turn pocket change into fortunes — and why selling early can sting just as much.

A Meme Coin Made One Trader Rich — And Cost Another $2.7M in Regret

A tiny meme coin called CASHCAT just handed two traders wildly different lessons about crypto’s boom-and-bust reality. One turned less than $1,000 into a seven-figure profit. Another cashed out too soon and left millions on the table. Both stories, reported by on-chain analytics account Lookonchain, are a reminder of how fast fortunes can flip in the meme coin corner of crypto — for better or worse.

CASHCAT is a speculative, community-driven token built on Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum layer-2 network tied to the trading app Robinhood. Its name nods to an old piece of company lore, and according to data from CoinGecko cited in the report, the token exploded by more than 3,200% in a single week. Its market capitalization briefly touched $200 million during the frenzy.

The $838 bet that turned into a million

In the first case, a trader spent just $838 worth of ETH to scoop up more than 15 million CASHCAT tokens. They later sold the entire position for 580 ETH, locking in a profit north of $1 million. Lookonchain noted the buyer may be Brian Jung, based on some of his own social posts — though that identification hasn’t been independently confirmed.

Here’s the twist: had that trader simply waited a few more days, the same stack of tokens would have been worth roughly $2.9 million. It’s a classic meme coin dilemma — sell too early and you walk away rich but wondering “what if,” or hold too long and risk watching gains evaporate entirely.

A $69 gamble that could have been $2.7 million

The second story stings a bit more. Another trader spent just 0.04 ETH — about $69 at the time — to buy 20 million CASHCAT tokens. They later sold the stash for 0.415 ETH, roughly $711, a tidy 10x return by any normal standard.

But according to Lookonchain, if that trader had simply held on for a few more days, the position would have ballooned to more than $2.7 million as CASHCAT kept climbing. A 10x profit is nothing to sneeze at, but in meme coin terms, this trader effectively cashed out right before the real fireworks started.

Why this matters for everyday holders

These two stories aren’t really about CASHCAT itself — they’re about the emotional rollercoaster that comes with holding any fast-moving meme coin. Gains of this size are extremely rare, and for every trader who times it right, plenty more buy near the top or panic-sell at the bottom and lose money entirely.

If you’re dabbling in meme coins built on hype and community buzz rather than fundamentals, it helps to treat the money as money you can afford to lose completely. Tokens like CASHCAT can 10x, 100x, or drop to near zero within days, and there’s no reliable way to know in advance which outcome you’ll get. The lucky headlines make for great stories — but they’re the exception, not the rule.
